IOC practice (8-10min)

What major themes does this extract reveal and how does it do so?

Self- Assessment:
Criteria A: Knowledge and understanding of text or extract (10)
In my knowledge and understanding of the text I would give myself an 8 because I believe that I did present the context necessary for this IOC- I established who the play is by as well as the time period and gave a brief overview of the plot surrounding the passage I was commenting on. I also believe that my comments were supported by references to the text but I think that my references could have been better developed or more clear.
Criteria B: Understanding of the use and effects of literary features (10)
I would give myself a 8 again in this criteria because I think that I did have a good awareness of the use of literary features, such as the way the text was developed and the juxtaposition and the development of Macbeth’s character. However, I think that I need to have more specific literary features such as tone and the way the setting plays a role and things such as that.
Criteria C: Organization (5)
For organization I would give myself a 5 because I thought that I had a clear introduction, body, and conclusion and I made sure to create links between all of my body points. The order of the body was also logical because I developed what was happening overall, then focused on some specifics regarding the juxtaposition of good and evil, and finished up with the impact that this has on Macbeth’s presentation and his character.
Criteria D: Language (5)
For language I would give myself a 4 because I know that I did have some pauses and awkwardly worded run-on sentences but I did not think that this detracted from the overall points I was making. I also don’t think that this detracted from my knowledge of the excerpt and my analysis of it.
Sophie:
ReplyDelete- Provide a brief summary of the text as a whole and then launch into the brief summary of the passage
- Love what you looked at (structure, dichotomy, characterization), but be sure to establish WHY Shakespeare uses these- what's his purpose? Keep linking back to this purpose
- Be careful that you don't confuse rephrasing what is said as analysis.
- Always think about WHY (I thought about this with the rhetorical question part...)
A: 7
B: 6
C: 4
D: 4
Hi Sophie! This might be an odd comment to make but I love the tone of your voice in this IOC recording. It's so relaxing to listen to.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ms. Genesky that you need to talk a little bit more about why the literary devices were used rather than how they were used, but I thought you did a really solid job of pointing out the devices themselves. Also- the intro was so good and the organization was great!! Good job:)
Hey Sophie! I really liked listening to your IOC. I think you did a really good job with including so many different important themes, but I would've also liked to see more specific techniques linked to those themes. I agree with Mrs. G in the fact that you need to really make sure you dig deep on answering the "why". Other than that, I think you had a really successful practice IOC!
ReplyDeleteHey Sophie!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Waverly and I was about to say the SAME thing about your voice - very calming and easy to listen to! I think you did a really good job with thoroughly picking the passage apart. One critique I have is that you mention the theme of good vs. evil a bunch and it starts to get repetitive. I think it would have helped your organization to maybe talk about everything in this theme at the same time rather than tying it back a bunch of times. This also could have helped with the theme of uncertainty. You did really well with explaining how each rhetorical device was used as well. You are amazing!
Hey Sophie! Good job on your IOC! I agree with the comments above, and think you did a good job of analyzing the different literary devices that were used throughout the passage. I also agree with the critiques above regarding the why part, but overall I think this was a good practice ioc!
ReplyDeleteSoppphhiieeee, I really liked your IOC practice! You did a really good job on analyzing your passage. I liked listening to ur voice too lol. If you use more techniques that could raise your score in Criterion B.
ReplyDeleteHey Sophie, Nice IOC practice. Like everyone else, the use of techniques could really help your score. I thought that it was a bit jumbled up, and that you could have organized your thoughts w/ some themes, though you did include some. Other than that, nice job!
ReplyDeleteHi Sophie! Wow, lots of people have already commented lol. Anyways, I thought you did a pretty good job with your IOC. You used the techniques in the extract very well, and provided evidence for all your arguments. Mrs. G already gave you a grade for the IOC, and I think that it is accurate. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSophie, your blog post was great! I really enjoyed listening to your IOC practice. You talked just slow enough so that I could understand you. I really liked your tone of voice and you structured your argument wonderfully. You really seemed to know your passage well as I personally tend to struggle with Macbeth. Listening to your IOC practice helped me with the planning process of the IOC as I was able to use some tricks I got from you. Your organization was great because you included everything that was required such as the techniques. You analysis was spot on! Great work girl!
